History:
Appenzell is mentioned for the first time in history in 1071. Four times in history a big fire damages a major part of Appenzell. Since the Canton-law in 1872, the villages that where called Rhoden, are now called Bezirke.
Actual:
The village has about 6000 inhabitants.
Interesting:
The village grow around an Appenzeller Farm (hof), that is why people from the villages are called "hofer". The women-voting right was rejected in 1990, but after protests, in the same year accepted.
