History:
The 4 castles of Ascona were probably destroyed by the swiss in 1581. At the end of the 18th century there was a lot of poverty, therefor a lot of Asconesers emigrated to Rome, Toskana and America. Around 1900 intellectuals started to settle on a hill behind Ascona: Monte Verita.
Actual:
Ascona has about 5500 citizens. There are a lot of festivals in Ascona like: the jazz festival, the classic music week, the street artist festival.
Interesting:
The car "opel-ascona" was named after Ascona. Ascona is one of the lowest situated places (200m above sea level) in Switzerland. The clown Dimitri had his first performance in the 60's in the theater of "Castello Seeschloss".
