History:
The Romans fortified Bellinzona against the barbars from the north. In the year 590 Bellinzona was mentioned for the first time in history as "Bilitionem castrum in campis situm Caninis". Like the other cities of Tessin: until 1500 the Duke of Milano and the bischop of Como had several fights, to posses Bellinzona. From 1500 on Bellinzona was controlled by the Swiss, until the canton Tessin was grounded in 1803.
