History:
For the first time in history Genève is mentioned in 58 b.c. (De bello Gallico) by Julius Caesar. In 1536 Theolog Jean Calvin came to Genève, he flew away from Paris. In 1559 the Genève academy was founded, later it became the university. In 1863 founded Henry Dunant, the Genève general Guillaume-Henri Dufour and Gustave Moynier the later known "international comitee of the red cross".
Actual:
Genève has about 185000 inhabitants, 45% of them are foreigners from more then 170 nations. The most photos and webcams of Geneve are added in 2008.
Interesting:
The yearly feast "Escalade" remembers the failed try in 1602 from the duke from Savoyen, Karl Emmanuel I., to concer Genève.
