History:
The city Murten was founded about 1170. In 1416 a fire destroyed most of the houses, which where made of wood. The battle of Murten is fought at 22. Juni 1476, between the armee of Switzerland and the duke Karl des Kühnen.
Actual:
The last 50 years, there is remarkable economic growth. Murten has almost 6000 inhabitants. German is spoken by 75% of the inhabitants.
Interesting:
A visit worth is the defence towers with the defence wall, which is unique in Switzerland. Also visit the castle place, which offers a beautiful view over the lake of Murten.
