History:
The villages Sierre and Bernune were in 515 a gift of the king Sigismund to the abbey St.Maurice. The village Bernune does not exist anymore. On its place stands now the castle Ravire.
Actual:
The town has about 15000 inhabitants. The only Swiss two-language Tourist school is in Sierre since 1983.
Interesting:
The poet Rainer Maria Rilke is burried in Sierre. Sierre belongs with the cities Biel, Murten and Freiburg to the two language cities of Switzerland.
